How it works
Machine learning image analysis
The service runs a deep learning model built with Google's Teachable Machine. Trained on thousands of images, it reads facial features and finds the closest animal face type.
Computer vision
Face detection and feature extraction let the model consider the shape and proportion of the eyes, nose and mouth along with the overall face shape.
Processing in the browser
All image processing happens directly in your browser, which keeps your data private and the result fast.

Why it was built
The Animal Face Test grew out of a distinctly Korean habit of describing how someone looks by comparing them to an animal.
The idea traces back to physiognomy, and the goal here was to combine that with modern AI so anyone could find their own animal face type easily and have fun doing it.

Who builds and runs this
The Animal Face Test is built and run by a single web developer. Planning, model training, frontend work, deployment and every piece of writing on this site are all handled by one person.
The AI classification model was trained with Teachable Machine, and the trained model runs directly in the browser. That choice is why photos you upload are never sent to a server, and why this site can be specific about how personal data is handled.
The photo-condition notes and similar-type comparisons on each animal page come from problems encountered while actually building and running this service. How much angle and lighting shift a result is something confirmed repeatedly in operation.
